St. Lucie County may open health clinic for county employees
Potentially mirroring what Port St. Lucie already has done, St. Lucie County government officials are exploring opening an employee health-care clinic for all county workers that could save the county $7.1 million by its third year in operation.
Fort Pierce, Fort Pierce Utilities Authority, school and fire district officials who have shown an interest in operating a clinic are meeting next week, County Administrator Doug Anderson said.
Port St. Lucie officials will be there to talk about what the city’s experience has been with its year-old clinic, as well as health-care consultants.
Port St. Lucie shuffles providers of employees’ health care
The city has canceled its contract with the provider of an employees’ medical clinic after one year and is looking to hire a new company in a hush-hush turnover that’s headed to the city council next week.
In a memo to City Manager Don Cooper Tuesday, Human Resources Director Tammy Williamson said the city has terminated its contract with WeCare and is seeking council approval to hire Tennessee-based CareHere to continue patient care starting July 28.
Williamson was on vacation Wednesday and could not be reached. Assistant Human Resources Director Sharon Pack would say only that the changeover is “in the best interest of the city.”
