Jodi Gordon, director of human resources for Brownsburg Community School Corporation, said school officials have been looking into offering school employees the opportunity to use a free medical clinic — Novia Care Clinic — as a part of their benefit package.
Gordon explained that BCSC employees who are insured under the Central Indiana School Insurance Trust package can receive basic family physician care by certified doctors and nurses at no cost through the Novia Care Clinic system.
“The cost of the clinic is the responsibility of the insurance trust,” Gordon said. “The trust believes long term it will save money because members will not incur medical claims by going to the hospital, emergency room, or physician’s office, but rather going to the clinic at no charge.”

A Hamilton County employer is tackling soaring health-care costs by providing on-the-job care.
Biddle Precision Components hired Novia CareClinics — an Indianapolis-based company that sets up wellness-based primary-care clinics in the workplace.
Located north of Noblesville in Hamilton County, Biddle is Sheridan’s largest employer with 180 workers. The company makes components and hydraulic valve spools.
Leslie Condre, a vice president at Novia, said her company contracts with doctors and nurses who treat employees at the company-based free clinic. Novia provides the medical supplies and equipment for the clinic.
A company’s startup costs can be up to $35,000, which includes equipment and possible construction costs, Condre said. Monthly charges depend on the company’s size and what supplies the clinic uses during that month.

Evansville based Vectren Corporation launched a pilot program this week for an on-site medical clinic at the 350 employee Support Services Center.
The health facility will serve employees and their dependents by providing physician care and prescription drug services.
According to a recent press release, Vectren officials said the pilot program was an effort to reduce long-term health care costs.
Vectren Chairman and CEO Niel C. Ellerbrook says, “This is a tremendous benefit for our employees and one of the first on-site, employer-operated health clinics in the area. We believe this is a more convenient and economical way to deliver health care to our employees. And it will certainly reduce non-productive time due to simple doctor and child-related health needs.”

Red Spot Paint & Varnish Company has recently opened an on-site employee medical clinic.
Tri-State Business Group on Health (TSBGH) executive director Lisa Gish says this healthcare model benefits both employers and employees. TSBGH is a local coalition of businesses aimed to improve healthcare opportunities. While the business still covers employees’ health care, the lower-cost model reduces overall cost. Employees can enjoy a convenient location and no co-payments, says Gish.
“The number of people who have not seen a doctor in the last several years is staggering,” Gish says. “Our goal is to find ways to get people the health care they need, take care of problems while they are minimal so they don’t escalate into more serious and more costly conditions, and encourage and provide services that prevent some of the most common health problems.”
The clinic is staffed with local physicians, and Novia CareClinics, an organization that establishes and implements these clinics, developed this clinic as well as one for Evansville-based energy company, Vectren Corporation.
“The decision to open an on-site clinic took careful consideration of a lot of different factors, some of which were not as easy to quantify as we would have liked,” says Joseph Neidig, Vice President of Operations at Red Spot and president of the TSBGH Board of Directors. “With the clinic at Red Spot only open for two weeks now, we have filled nearly every appointment, and the positive response from our employees has been overwhelming. It was definitely the right decision for us.
